Am I My Brother's Keeper And Its Use On Health Care Debate

Then the Lord said to Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?"

"I know not," he replied. "Am I my brother's keeper?"
Notice first of all, the brother in question is his actual brother. Not every anonymous stranger that wanders the earth. A person is responsible for others, there is no question to that but that doesn't mean he's responsible for everyone equally and without nor sense of priority.

A person is first and foremost responsible to and for himself, period. And then those within his immediate family - spouse, children, parents. That circle then grows out to extended families and neighbors. To his local community, state, and so forth. Everyone, and I mean everyone, has limited resources of - wealth, time, and compassion.

The Progressives believe that the Federal government is best to manage resources for redistribution. Why? Why should I not be the most trusted entity to distribute my time and resources? First, to those I am most responsible for and according to their needs as I determine them?

So, coming back to the expression being flaunted in various conversations on the healthcare debate I would like to point out again that it read, "Am I my brother's keeper?" and not "Am I some stranger in California brother's keeper?"
