Union School teachers, Obama as President, and your kids

Sand Hill Venable Elementary in NC. WND has the lyrics in their story.

The "more info" section under the YouTube page for this one also has the lyrics. This was filmed at the B. Bernice Young Elementary School in Burlington, NJ and uploaded on June 19, 2009.

Here's Glenn's take on it

Here's the side statement of the post, "Barack Obama is Our New President - Ms. Susan Marsico's Kindergarten music class sings about President Barack Obama. Performed: Friday, February 13, 2009 Harmony Leland Elementary School, Mableton, GA"

Encourage you to read the [more info] link on the YouTube page for this one as well.

This one is probably innocent enough. Here's the side statement, "As President Obama became our new President and as we recently celebrated the history of Martin Luther King Jr, our Native American community, including my kindergarten class, felt a sense of pride and hope for all minorities around the world... this song is a celebration of that hope and a reminder that the world is our opportunity!"

Foreign film produces talking in the beginning and then it's shows the classroom.

I don't agree with the posters assumption or statement they put at the front of the video by the way.

Youtube side comment, "A Kansas City teacher has been suspended - and may be subjected to legal action - for producing a video (the link is to the video) of his students in military formations in support of Barack Hussein Obama and posting it on the Internet."

The Story Of Stuff - Tides [a progressive group] put out this movie and it's playing in schools. I'll list the Glenn Beck bit on it first and then the critique and then a link to the original.

Original - Story of Stuff, Full Version; How Things Work, About Stuff

This one is at a private home - NOT AT A SCHOOL.

Here's some references about students having required community service: summoned, mandatory or forced? And a video of President Obama speaking about it during the election cycle:

Ok, this one isn't done with children or teachers...but it never gets old to laugh at.

And a nice improvement to the "I Pledge" video:

Reagan and a Tax-payers Bill of Rights

This was short but interesting.

The Word Game

Is Barack Obama, a Fabian Socialist ?

Fabians believed in gradual nationalization of the economy through manipulation of the democratic process. Breaking away from the violent revolutionary socialists of their day, they thought that the only real way to effect "fundamental change" and "social justice" was through a mass movement of the working classes presided over by intellectual and cultural elites.

End or Audit the Federal Reserve

Start here for the basics

Ron Paul: Before the US House of Representatives, February 4, 2009, introducing the The Federal Reserve Board Abolition Act, H.R. 833.

Others that support:
Alan Grayson, Barney Frank [maybe], Dennis Kucinich

The Anti-Fed Revolution Is Happening

Ron Paul 7/18/2009 "Obama Got 1 Million From Goldman Sachs Planning A World Currency" [Ron's towards the end]

Obama's speech at Clintons Global Initiative [CGI]

Complete Text of speech. Below is not the full speech, as numerous paragraphs were dedicated to ass kissing.
I first saw it in my mother -- she was an anthropologist who dedicated her life to understanding and improving the lives of the rural poor, from Indonesia to Pakistan.  Whether working with USAID or the Asian Development Bank, the Ford Foundation, Bank Rakyat in Jakarta or Women's World Banking here in New York, she championed the cause of women's welfare and helped pioneer the micro loans that have helped lift millions from poverty.
She pioneered micro loans? Really?
My mother understood that whether you live in the foothills of Java or the skyscrapers of Manhattan, we all share common principles; justice and progress, tolerance and the dignity of all human beings. And we all share common aspirations, for ourselves and our children: to get an education, to work with dignity, and to live in peace and security.

That's where I first saw that spirit. That's who planted it in me. And I saw this spirit again when I moved to Chicago, working as a community organizer on some of the poorest streets in some of the poorest neighborhoods in the United States; in neighborhoods devastated by steel plant closings, I worked with local churches to help people in need. And change didn't come easy, but with a lot of time and effort, it did come -- block by block, neighborhood by neighborhood.

That's when I learned that real progress does not just come from the top down, not just from government, it comes from the bottom up -- from people. (Applause.) If you want to bring about change in the world, you can't just be an advocate of somebody else doing it. You can't just preach lofty goals and wait for somebody else act. You have to step up. You have to serve.
Who "fixed" the problems in these poor communities you were a community organizer Mr. President? Was it not from those on top and from the government?
I've seen this spirit of service in my wife Michelle -- one of the millions of people whose lives has been touched by
AmeriCorps, created by President Clinton. She left her job at a law firm to be the founding director of an AmeriCorps program in Chicago that trains young people for careers in public service.  I've seen the transformation that occurs -- in their lives, in hers -- when people are empowered to live their dreams.
Thanks for reminding me about Michelle and Americrop, seems like she's still has her heart there.
And that's the spirit that's represented here tonight -- in the difference that CGI members have made around the world. The greenhouse gases you've cut. The entrepreneurs you've empowered with micro loans.  All the people, many of them children, you've helped to lead healthier, more productive lives -- more than 200 million in more than 150 countries.
If only you thought the micro loans worked the same way in the U.S. as compared to the really, really, big loans to those that are to big to fail.
Reckless speculation in any financial sector of the world, or someone's failure to pay a mortgage in Florida, can contribute to a global recession that undermines all of us.  Poverty in Somalia, the poppy fields of Afghanistan, the northbound flow of drugs from Colombia and the southbound flow of American guns and cash into Mexico -- all this fuels violence that endangers each and every one of us. A flu that starts in one country can become a pandemic that sickens millions.
Guess he didn't get the memo about Mexico and U.S. guns.
In short, we need a new spirit of global partnership.  And that is exactly the spirit that guides this organization; I hope that it is the spirit that guides my administration.

Here at home, we've summoned the American people to a new era of service: launching a historic expansion of community service; more than tripling the size of AmeriCorps; creating a new model -- an innovation fund to bring together nonprofits, foundations, the private sector and government to find the community solutions that work, to fund them and then replicate them across America.
Was that summoned, mandatory or forced? Ya, we heard you say this before:

In short, we're renewing development as a key element of American foreign policy -- not by lecturing and imposing our ideas, but by listening and working together; by seeking more exchanges between students and experts; new collaborations among scientists to promote technological development; partnerships between businesses, entrepreneurs to advance prosperity and opportunity for people
everywhere.
Man, he just can give a speech without pointing out some real or imagined failing of the U.S. prior to his own administration taking over. I guess all the HIV/AIDS policies for Africa that Bush advocated was just him imposing his own ideas on them.

Healthcare Options - from Glenn Beck New Book

I doubt many would buy/read Glenn Beck's new book, "Arguing With Idiots" just because I recommend it but I think everyone will be interested in some of the information about health care that he has in there. Things that could help the uninsured or those overly charged and insured. I wasn't aware of a number of these options.

CVS [500], Walgreens [400], and Walmart have been opening up clinic at many of their location and have been having price wars on generics. Clinic costs are about 1/2 of normal doc visit and 1/6 of emergency room.

Walmart, $10 for 90-day supply for most generic drugs. Walgreens, $12 for 90-day supply [400 types]. CVS, $9.99 for 90-day supply [100's of types]. And so forth.

Buy your own health insurance.

Price what medical treatments should cost.

Want a 3AM call from a doctor on the cheap?
http://www.teladoc.com/ - for $35 you'll be on the phone with a doc within 3 hours.

Want a doctore via online, webcam, IM, phone or text?
http://www.americanwell.com/ for $45
Walmart is now setting up virtual clinic's that will use things like webcam's and so forth.

How about prepaying up front [$500/yr] and then avoiding larger costs and what looks to be most other costs as well later?
http://www.noinsuranceclub.com/

And there's also the story of Dr. John Muney who wanted to offer a plan to his patients that for $79 a month they could have unlimited appointments with him. But that wasn't a no-no for the State Insurance Department of New York - they said it was to cheap. They later settled - he had to charge more and cover less.

Here's a group trying to do the same thing....

And if you don't think Oprah's religious beliefs are silly, then... Well, I'll be nice and say nothing at all on that.

Morning Joe [Scarborough] Hating On Glenn Beck

A running log on the envy, I mean disagreements that Morning Joe has with Glenn Beck. Usually they amount to examples of Joe running his mouth before his coffee offering proof that he never heard or listen to the orginal source that he's now ragging on Glenn Beck about.

Let's Check A Running Long Of @JoeNBC 's tweets:
  • @RIGHTone Actually, liberals love Glenn Beck because he makes it so much easier to marginalize real conservatives who fight with ideas. 6:53 PM Sep 22nd
  • Will a GOP Presidential hopeful for 2012 have the courage to condemn Beck in tough terms for saying Barack Obama "hates white people"? 1:58 PM Sep 21st from web
  • Pete Wehner on why Glenn Beck bad is for American conservatism: http://www.commentarymagazine.com/blogs/index.php/category/contentions 1:57 PM Sep 21st from web
  • FINALLY! A prominent conservative intellectual says Glenn Beck harmful to the conservative movement. Read Pete Wehner's Commentary piece. 1:56 PM Sep 21st from web
  • @JamilSmith The "easy" stance would be to play to one side or another like Beck, Palin, Moyers or Carter. Unlike most, I challenge all sides 1:03 PM Sep 21st
  • Funny how liberals love me calling out Beck but can't take truth about Moyers. 12:00 PM Sep 21st
  • But at least on Morning Joe, we don't accuse Democrats of being racists (Beck) or Republicans of launching theocracies (Moyers). 5:28 AM Sep 21st from web
  • @billieraven You have to ask if Glenn Beck is real journalism? Poor thing. He is not. Not even close. Reminds me of Bill Moyers. 5:23 AM Sep 21st
  • @rfbarnes They are both blinded by ideology. Moyers plays to the hard Left and Beck to the hard Right. Neither are objective. Not close. 5:22 AM Sep 21st
  • @adrianinflorida Who thinks Beck is real journalism? He's just as biased on the Right as Moyers is on the Left. Just preaching to the choir. 5:20 AM Sep 21st
  • @probert06 Moyers has always foamed at the mouth the second his party got voted out of power. Glenn Beck, meet Bill Moyers. Your soul mate. 8:06 PM Sep 20th
  • @TheyGaveUsARep You asked me to give examples of hate speech on the Left that matched Rush and Beck. I gave a very personal example. 1:56 PM Sep 19th
  • @Zakkalicious What is the KO game? Laughing at Beck telling Mika to shut up? Would you rather us have been angry? We try not to do "angry." 10:19 AM Sep 18th
  • @SallyInUtah Beck put the FEMA concentration stories into the national debate for a month saying "I can't debunk them!" He eventually did. 10:40 PM Sep 17th
  • @BMoreJAG Definitely. Glenn Beck calling the president a racist is equally offensive. That's why I called that statement dangerous. 6:16 PM Sep 16th
  • Some other Bible verses for Mr. Beck. "Judge not that ye be not judged." Matthew 7:1.  1:49 PM Sep 12th
  • Beck just quoted the Bible about "fighting against darkness and spiritual wickedness in high places." 1:27 PM Sep 12th

Acorn's Money Tree Has Many Branches - NPR

This article - ACORN's Money Tree Has Many Branches by NPR was referenced in a letter by some senators to Reid. That letter can be seen here - Senators Call on Reid to Launch ACORN Probe .

John Stossel Moves to Fox News

He writes about it at Reason.com here.

I found this very insightful:

...we have been losing something vital in America: the commitment to
individual liberty and the understanding that as government grows,
liberty shrinks.
And then later:

I also want to undertake exercises in understanding libertarianism, the
philosophy of freedom, which used to be called "liberalism."

Context for Silver Projections - The Basics That Are Often Left Out

I found this very useful to try and ground myself into a understanding of gold / silver.

Basic point:
Silver is found
in the ground about 16 times more often than gold. In a free market, an
ounce of silver would be worth about 1/16 an ounce of gold.
Historically this is the value/price ratio between the two metals.

Common Ground - Teaparties Inviting The Left

This should be the core discussion to any and all of our political issues today. I believe it's the theme that both the left and right can agree upon. A. Huffington has written numerous times and given interviews on this issue over the last couple of months. My hope would be she uses this topic to diffuse the natural conflict of left-v-right on her HuffingtonPost and that some in the TeaParty groups would do likewise.

Wealth vs. Money - Infinite vs. Finite [A Starting Hypothesis]

Ok, just wrapping up the last of my 7 books I've been reading the last month on economics and history tied to it. Last one is Schiff's Crashproof.

Wanted to got down a thought, an expression, that occurred to me while reading it.
"Wealth is not finite; we will always find more rare & valuable resources to base currency [money] on that allows a scaling divisional factor. "Money", when not tied to wealth, is finite though it acts infinite by devaluation of central banking and governmental agencies. If poverty is a condition where wealth is absent to the extent that basic needs can't be reasonable fulfilled [shelter, food, safety] that also allows one to continue to acquire more wealth [occupation, transportation, education or skills for an occupation] then poverty can only be achieved by a government and monetary policy that is based upon wealth and it's currency isn't allowed to be detached from it. Governments that do not, will eventually cause the highest levels of poverty and concentration of wealth to the least number of individuals."
I'll work on that over the next coming weeks and see how it shape-ups or fails miserably upon further consideration.

On Krugman's Off Economics

The initial article is, Krugman on Economics: In the New York Times, Paul Krugman . But I found this reference on the WSJ to be more enlightening - Secondary Sources: U.S. Jobs, Retirement, Krugman on Economics .

Secondary commentaries were:
Brad DeLong
Justin Fox
Scott Sumner
James Kwak
Arnold Kling
Andrew Samwick
Noam Scheiber
David Warsh
Don Marron
Diane Lim Rogers
Mark Thoma
Andrew Leonard

I hope to add other reference on the above authors later to help give context of their background and how it might relate to their criticism.

But, in my opinion, the most helpful commentary might of been from a user post on the WSJ article. I'm adding the comment below as posted on WSJ - just in case it gets lost. Underneath it, I'll give supporting url references that they mention.
  • Oh where oh where to begin re: Dr. Bubble Paul Krugman’s latest praise for the Keynesian snake oil…

    1. Dr. Bubble says, “Keynes did not, despite what you may have heard, want the government to run the economy. He described his analysis in his 1936 masterwork, “The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money,” as “moderately conservative in its implications.” While I’m not aware of this particular quote, I am aware of the following quote from Sept 7, 1936 in the prologue to the German edition of The General Theory in which Keynes said his theories were “more easily adapted to the conditions of a totalitarian state.”

    2. Dr. Bubble says, “The General Theory” is a work of profound, deep analysis — analysis that persuaded the best young economists of the day.”

While there’s no doubt that some of the best young economists of the day were persuaded, it doesn’t mean Keynesian economics was, or is, correct.

Moreover, for those familiar w/ Professor Haberler’s “Prosperity and Depression,” first published in 1937, there was considerable debate at that time and many of Keynes’ errors & fallacies were immediately exposed. It is laughable to say “The General Theory” is somehow “profound, deep analysis”.

As Paul Samuelson himself put it, “It is a badly written book, poorly organized; any layman who, beguiled by the author’s previous reputation, bought the book was cheated of his 5 shillings. It is not well suited for classroom use. It is arrogant, bad-tempered, polemical, and not overly generous in its acknowledgments. It abounds in mares’ nests and confusions… In short, it is a work of genius.”

The fact that Samuelson was persuaded, and quickly incorporated this nonsense into the most widely used economics textbooks in America’s “best” schools, means only that we now have a lot of very confused people, including Dr. Bubble and Brad DeLong.

    3. Note that I included Samuelson’s last sentence, “In short, it is a work of genius.” While I reject “The General Theory,” I at least attempt to be fair to it. Now note Dr. Bubble’s deliberate distortion of Schumpeter. Does anyone really believe Schumpeter thought “whatever happens in a market economy must be right?”

    4. I often wonder if Kosinkski conjured up the character Chauncey Gardner, for the book & film “Being There,” after attempting to read “The General Theory.” The fact that Keynesian economics is devoid of a capital theory should, by itself, confirm the theory lacks “depth” and it also explains why “The General Theory” prescribes simplistic Chauncey Gardner-like policies such as Govt borrowing mountains of fiat
money, printed out of thin air by the central bank, and spent digging holes. Could one possibly advocate a more insane economic policy than this?

And this is where Dr. Bubble expressly states the root problem of Keynesian dogma, “And he called for active government intervention — printing more money and, if necessary, spending heavily on public works — to fight unemployment during slumps.”

Because Keynes had no capital theory, as Hayek pointed out & Keynes himself admitted, Keynes believed “printing more money” out of thin air by central banks is neutral because S = I.

As Professor Jesus Huerta de Soto explains:

“Keynesians hold no theory to explain why crises recur in a hampered market economy that suffers credit expansion (that is, one in which traditional legal principles are violated). Keynesians simply attribute crises to sudden halts in investment demand, interruptions caused by irrational behavior on the part of entrepreneurs or by an unexpected loss of confidence and optimism on the part of economic agents.
Moreover Keynesians neglect to recognize in their analyses that crises are an ENDOGENOUS consequence of the very credit expansion process which first feeds the boom. Unlike their fellow macroeconomists, the monetarists, Keynesians believe the results of monetary expansion policies to be relatively less effective and important than those of fiscal policy, and they advocate public spending as a means to directly
increase effective demand. They fail to comprehend that such a policy further complicates the process by which the productive structure readjusts, and it worsens the outlook for the stages furthest from consumption.”

For those attempting to detox from the Keynesian snake oil, I recommend this four step reading ‘program’ to assist your recovery to sanity:

    1. Henry Hazlitt’s 1959 classic, “The Failure of the ‘New Economics’” in which he dismantles Keynes’ “mare’s nests and confusions” line by line.

    2. Roger Garrison’s “Time and Money: The Macroeconomics of Capital Structure.”

    3. Jesus Huerta de Soto’s “Money, Bank Credit and Economic Cycles.”

    4. John B Taylor’s book, “Getting Off Track” as it demonstrates precisely how the inherently unstable fractional reserve / central bank monetary operating model (described in de Soto’s book) wrecks havoc in the real world.

All of these books are, of course, built primarily on the work of Menger, Bohm-Bawerk, Mises, Hayek & Rothbard.

China alarmed by US money printing [Also mentions about China buying gold]
Swiss topple U.S. as most competitive economy: WEF

What's Missing Here? Home-Buyer Tax Credit Added 400,000 Sales

Ok, so the WSJ write up this artilce:

Home-Buyer Tax Credit Added 400,000 Sales, Zandi Says

And as I said in the comment section:
How does the WSJ post this article without at least giving us the context of what 400,000 really means? 400,000 out of a total of what? Was it 5% of the home purchases since the tax break or was it 90%? Disappointed that WSJ didn’t that the forethought to think of this…and frustrated I can’t find it myself yet.
Why do reports even bother to go into work -- they should just subcontract to bloggers to ghost-write for them. That would be capitalism in action!  :)

"I know not," he replied. "Am I my brother's keeper?"
Notice first of all, the brother in question is his actual brother. Not every anonymous stranger that wanders the earth. A person is responsible for others, there is no question to that but that doesn't mean he's responsible for everyone equally and without nor sense of priority.

A person is first and foremost responsible to and for himself, period. And then those within his immediate family - spouse, children, parents. That circle then grows out to extended families and neighbors. To his local community, state, and so forth. Everyone, and I mean everyone, has limited resources of - wealth, time, and compassion.

The Progressives believe that the Federal government is best to manage resources for redistribution. Why? Why should I not be the most trusted entity to distribute my time and resources? First, to those I am most responsible for and according to their needs as I determine them?

So, coming back to the expression being flaunted in various conversations on the healthcare debate I would like to point out again that it read, "Am I my brother's keeper?" and not "Am I some stranger in California brother's keeper?"

And another example of an angry mob

This video is informative because it shows how the real extremists only hold to their own -- that have no real allegiance to any of the major parties.

Alex Jones is just a nut. Just like the LaRouche supports, IMO, shouldn't consider in either the left or right camp -- these types are just off the reservation.

Powers of Congress [Constitutional] and HealthCare

Decent video with a conversation about the topic, though what is missing is a Progressive to give their own interpretation.

So, are you saying you are or are not pulling the plug?

Obama on Labor Day said :

"I've got a question for all these folks who say, you know, we're going to pull the plug on Grandma and this is all about illegal immigrants — you've heard all the lies," Obama said. "I've got a question for all those folks: What are you going to do? What's your answer? What's your solution?

"And you know what? They don't have one."

So, not only has he not read the Democratic health care proposals it seems he hasn't read any of the Republican ones nor the amendments they have offered. And people fall for this stuff?

From Republicans Have Offered Three Alternative Health Care Reform Bills :

The three Republican bills total almost 400 pages and have been on the table since May and June.

In May, Republicans in the House and the Senate formed a bicameral coalition to produce the130-page “Patients Choice Act of 2009.”

In June, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) introduced the “Health Care Freedom Plan,” a 41-page proposal.

And in July, the Republican Study Committee, under the leadership of Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), unveiled the “Empowering Patients First Act,” a 130-page plan.

Newt has laid out his ideas here : Center for Health Transformation

And then there's all those amendments that were rejected as well.
